Our Engaged Clients: Real Engagement Ring Stories
Every proposal has a story behind it. The location, the surprise, the nervous anticipation and, of course, the moment the engagement ring is revealed all become part of a memory. That memory lasts a lifetime.
At Polished Diamonds, we design and make custom engagement rings in New Zealand for couples with very different ideas, styles and budgets. Some customers arrive knowing exactly what their perfect ring should look like. Others may need guidance through diamond shapes, metals, settings and design possibilities.
What they have in common is that the finished engagement ring has been created specifically for the person who will wear it.
Here are some of the engagement stories and experiences our clients have shared with us over the years.
Kelly & Cam’s Wedding
Silver Fern Kelly Jury and husband Cam Jackson celebrated their special day with jewellery created especially for them by Polished Diamonds.
Kelly’s beautiful engagement ring was custom designed and made by our team, followed by bespoke wedding bands for both Kelly and Cam to complete their bridal set. Crafted in New Zealand, each ring was created to reflect their individual style and become a lasting part of their story together. Congratulations to Kelly and Cam — we love seeing our clients’ engagement rings and wedding bands become part of such meaningful moments.
Nathan’s Mountaintop Proposal
Nathan contacted Polished Diamonds to create a custom trilogy topaz engagement ring for his partner, with the craftsmanship of the setting and the beautiful colour of the gemstone being particularly important to him.
He then planned an unforgettable proposal, arranging a private picnic surrounded by snow on top of a spectacular mountain before asking the big question. After the proposal, Nathan shared this wonderful photograph of the newly engaged couple and their incredible setting. We love seeing a custom engagement ring journey from its first CAD design to the moment it becomes part of such a personal and memorable proposal story.
Fiona & Sam’s Banks Peninsula Proposal
Fiona and Sam celebrated their engagement surrounded by the beautiful landscape of Banks Peninsula near Christchurch.
We designed Fiona’s engagement ring before the proposal. Sam later contacted us to tell us how much she loved the finished design.
New Zealand offers some extraordinary proposal locations, but the most memorable proposals are often simply those that feel personal to the couple. Whether it happens overlooking the mountains, beside the ocean, at home or somewhere significant to your relationship, the ring becomes part of that story.
Nel & Keegan’s Custom Engagement Ring
For Nel and Keegan, we created a truly distinctive snowflake-style engagement ring with a beautiful touch of colour.
The design features striking London Blue Topaz gemstones set along the band, adding rich blue tones that complement the intricate snowflake-inspired setting. The result is a highly personal engagement ring with plenty of character, combining a custom design with meaningful gemstone details to create something uniquely theirs.
Engagement Rings Designed Around the Person
One of the advantages of designing a custom engagement ring is the freedom to choose the elements that matter most to you.
Depending on the design, this can include:
- Natural or lab-grown diamonds
- Round, oval, emerald, radiant, pear and other diamond shapes
- Platinum, white gold, yellow gold or rose gold
- Solitaire, halo, trilogy and more detailed settings
- Coloured gemstones such as sapphire, ruby, emerald and topaz
- Different band widths, profiles and setting heights
- Personal design details or meaningful features
There is no single engagement ring that is right for everyone.
Lifestyle, hand shape, personal style and budget can all influence the final design. Someone who works extensively with their hands, for example, may prefer a lower-set design. Another person may prioritise maximum visibility and impact from the centre diamond.
From an Idea to a Finished Engagement Ring
At Polished Diamonds, custom rings are developed using Computer-Aided Design, commonly known as CAD.
CAD allows the engagement ring to be modelled digitally before it is manufactured. This makes it possible to review the ring’s proportions, setting, gemstone placement and finer details before production begins.
For a custom design, the process typically includes discussing the initial idea, selecting the diamond or gemstone, choosing the precious metal and developing the ring in CAD.
Adjustments can then be made before the design is approved and moved into production.
This is particularly useful when combining ideas from several different rings or creating something completely unique.
Engagement Rings Made in New Zealand
Polished Diamonds designs and makes jewellery in New Zealand, combining modern jewellery technology with skilled local craftsmanship.
Keeping the design and manufacturing process within our New Zealand jewellery business gives us greater control over important details. These details include proportions, setting, finishing and final quality.
Our jewellery design studios in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch also give clients the opportunity to discuss designs, compare diamonds and gemstones and see different engagement ring styles in person.
You can also contact us to work remotely throughout New Zealand and overseas.
After the Proposal: Designing the Wedding Ring
The engagement is often only the beginning of the jewellery story.
When the wedding approaches, a wedding ring can be designed to sit alongside the engagement ring. Depending on the setting, this may be a simple straight band or a custom-shaped wedding ring. That ring would be designed around the contours of the engagement ring.
Using the original engagement-ring design information can make it easier to create two rings that look balanced when worn together.
Some couples also incorporate matching details, engraving, diamonds or other personal elements into their wedding rings.
Creating Your Own Engagement Story
Choosing an engagement ring can feel complicated, particularly when comparing diamond qualities, designs, precious metals and prices. It does not need to be.
A good engagement ring should balance appearance, quality, durability and budget while ultimately feeling right for the person who will wear it.
Whether you already know the exact ring you want or are starting with only a few ideas, the Polished Diamonds team can help you explore the options and develop an engagement ring specifically for you.
