Design Your Own Diamond Ring
Price range: $150 through $250
Create a diamond ring designed specifically around your style, diamond and preferences. At Polished Diamonds, we create custom diamond rings using professional Computer-Aided Design (CAD). CAD allows our jewellery designers to precisely control diamond placement, setting height, band width, proportions and profile before manufacture begins. Most importantly, you can see your diamond ring before it is made. Detailed CAD images allow you to review your design from different angles and approve the appearance and proportions before your ring moves into production. We can also 3D-print a resin ring for you to try on.
Choose your preferred diamond shape, natural or lab-grown diamond, setting style and precious metal, or bring us a photograph, sketch or idea. Our designers can turn your concept into a custom diamond ring made specifically for you.

How to Design Your Own Diamond Ring
1. Choose Your Diamond
Choose from natural or lab-grown diamonds in shapes including:
- Round brilliant
- Oval
- Emerald
- Radiant
- Princess
- Pear
- Cushion
- Marquise
- Asscher
We can incorporate the actual dimensions of your chosen diamond into the CAD model, allowing the setting to be designed specifically around the stone.
Our designers can also help you compare carat weight, cut, colour and clarity to find a diamond suited to your design and budget.
2. Choose Your Ring Style
Start with one of our existing diamond ring designs, combine features from different styles or create something completely original.
Popular options include:
- Solitaire diamond rings
- Solitaire accent rings
- Trilogy diamond rings
- Halo diamond rings
- Vintage-inspired designs
- Hidden halos
- Diamond-set bands
3. Choose Your Precious Metal
Your custom ring can be created in platinum or your preferred gold option.
Our designers can help you select the most appropriate metal based on appearance, design, wearability and personal preference.
4. We Create Your Ring in CAD
Your jewellery designer creates a detailed three-dimensional CAD model of your ring.
CAD allows us to accurately develop important details including:
- Diamond position
- Claw and setting dimensions
- Band width and thickness
- Setting height
- Diamond spacing
- Gallery and side profile
- Wedding ring clearance
- Overall proportions
5. View and Approve Your Design
You receive detailed CAD images showing your proposed diamond ring before it is manufactured.
This allows you to review the proportions, setting, diamond position and overall appearance of your ring before production begins.
Both Standard and Complex CAD Design include one design alteration, allowing you to refine the design before final approval.
Once you are happy with your ring, the CAD design is approved for manufacture.
Why Use CAD to Design a Diamond Ring?
Diamond rings contain very small dimensional details that can significantly affect how the finished ring looks and wears.
CAD gives our jewellery designers precise control over these dimensions while also allowing you to view the ring before manufacture.
The three main advantages are:
Precision
Diamond placement, settings, proportions and dimensions can be developed accurately.
Visualisation
You can see a detailed three-dimensional representation of your diamond ring before it is made.
Control
You can review and refine the design before approving it for manufacture.
This combination of creativity and precision is particularly valuable when creating a custom diamond ring.
Designed Around Your Diamond
A custom diamond ring can be designed around the actual dimensions of your chosen diamond rather than adapting the stone to a generic setting.
Two diamonds of the same carat weight can have different physical dimensions depending on their shape and cut.
Incorporating these dimensions into the CAD design allows us to consider claw placement, setting height, surrounding diamonds and the overall balance of the ring.
Natural or Lab-Grown Diamonds
Your custom diamond ring can be designed around either a natural or lab-grown diamond.
Choose the diamond shape, carat weight and quality that suit your design and budget. We can then develop the ring and setting around your selected stone.

Designed to Work With Your Wedding Ring
If your diamond ring will eventually be worn with a wedding ring, we can consider both rings during the design process.
Setting height, band width and profile all influence how closely a wedding ring will sit beside your diamond ring.
CAD allows these details to be considered before manufacture, helping create a more cohesive bridal set.
