Carat weight alone does not tell you how large a round diamond will look. Two diamonds of the same carat weight can have different face-up diameters because weight can be distributed differently through the depth of the stone. When comparing options, consider the diamond’s millimetre measurements, proportions and cut grade alongside carat, colour and clarity.

For round brilliant diamonds, cut deserves particular attention because small differences in proportion, symmetry and polish can affect how efficiently light travels through the stone. A diamond with strong cut performance can appear lively across a wide range of lighting conditions, while a heavier diamond with less balanced proportions may not necessarily look larger or brighter.
