Full Eternity Rings and Diamond-Set Anniversary Rings

A full eternity ring provides continuous diamond coverage because the stones extend around the entire finger. This creates an impressive appearance from every viewing angle but makes accurate finger sizing particularly important.

An anniversary design can instead concentrate the diamonds across the visible top section of the ring. This allows larger individual stones or more distinctive arrangements to be used while retaining more plain metal through other areas of the band.

Neither approach is inherently better. A full eternity ring is ideal where continuous diamond coverage is the priority, while an anniversary ring offers greater freedom in the number, size and arrangement of the diamonds.

Diamond Setting Styles

The way the diamonds are secured has a major influence on both the appearance and character of the ring.

Shared-claw settings use carefully positioned claws between adjacent diamonds, reducing the amount of visible metal and allowing a continuous sequence of stones to remain prominent.

Pavé and scalloped settings use smaller diamonds closely arranged through the band to create a refined surface of brilliance with minimal visible metal.

Other diamond and gemstone shapes can also be incorporated into a custom eternity or anniversary design.

For eternity rings, total carat weight describes the combined weight of all the diamonds rather than the size of one individual centre stone. The same total carat weight can therefore look different depending on the number, dimensions and arrangement of the diamonds.

Finger size can also influence how many diamonds are required in a full eternity design.

Natural or Lab-Grown Diamonds

Eternity and anniversary rings can be created using natural or lab-grown diamonds.

Natural diamonds are chosen by clients who value their geological origin and natural rarity.

Lab-grown diamonds have the same fundamental crystal structure and physical properties as natural diamonds but are produced in controlled conditions. They can provide greater flexibility when choosing total diamond weight or individual diamond size within a particular budget.

Getting the Finger Size Right

Accurate finger sizing is particularly important when ordering a full eternity ring.

Because diamonds and their settings continue around the entire circumference, there may be little or no plain metal available to remove or add during conventional resizing. Significant size changes can therefore require the ring to be remade rather than simply resized.

Finger size also affects the circumference of the ring. A larger size may require additional diamonds to maintain the continuous pattern, which can alter both the total carat weight and final price.
