As jewellery design requires accuracy down to the nearest point of a millimetre, Magnetic Resonate Image (MRI) scanning is the most effective and efficient way to do so. Quality and accuracy are paramount here at Polished Diamonds therefore, by using this method of scanning we can ensure that your ring is as close to perfect as physically possible.

Here at Polished Diamonds we use a process called MRI scanning to insert images of a client’s exact diamond rings, draw perfectly matching rings to match and form a set. MRI scanning is often thought of as being solely used for health-related purposes, such as disease detection. However, due to the processes uniqueness, it serves as an accurate method for jewellery design to ensure accuracy and precision.
A MRI scan is a radiology technique that produces detailed images through the use of magnetism, a computer and radio waves. The magnetism used, creates a powerful magnetic field through the alignment of a range of different atoms which are then exposed to the radio waves. The output from this step is received through the scanner and an image is then produced.

MRI scanning allows us to check for gaps, cut outs, diamond placement and fit. It also provides the client with a visual of how the set is going to look. We need your ring for 3 – 4 days, where we polish the ring like new and make a digital copy. The scanning system enables us to design matching wedding rings, eternity rings or anniversary rings with the same width, depth and profile to match.

The photo pictured above is an example of a client’s engagement ring that has been scanned in and an eternity ring has been designed to match. Prior to scanning in the engagement ring, we were unable to determine whether to include five or six diamonds in the eternity ring. However, once the ring had been scanned in it was clear that six diamonds were going to be required to match the diamonds in the engagement ring band, something that MRI scanning process allowed us to visualise.

Pictured above is another example of us here at Polished Diamonds using the MRI scanning process to develop a matching set for a client. In this case, the engagement ring was scanned in and used to determine whether the wedder needed to sit flush with the engagement ring or alternatively include a small gap between the two rings (as shown in the picture).
